Coffee Shop Hunt: Barabuk Coffee Shop & Bookstore

Ever since I moved to the city I have been dying to discover as many coffee shops as I possibly could, yet somehow me and my little group of friends mostly spent our time at this cute coffee place with a really cute bartender, however that is not of main importance, is it? Okay, perhaps it does play a rather large factor as in to why we spend so much time there, let's be honest. However, spending so much time there left me little to no time to discover new fantastic places. Which is why I was rather excited when me and one of my best friends decided to switch it up a little and pay a visit to this cute little place just around the corner.

Barabuk Coffee Shop & Bookstore is exactly what the name tells you, a coffee shop with a tiny bookstore by the side. Although I personally haven't checked out their selection of books, my friend did and apparently she wasn't all that impressed. One thing that I can judge however is their coffee selection, and that did not disappoint in the slightest. On the above picture you can see a Chocolate Cookie Macchiatto on the left and your regular Cappuccino on the right. I had the Chocolate Cookie one, and I must say that it was absolutely delicious and rather worth its price of 2.20eur. Later in the day I also decided to try out their Cappuccino with coconut milk and although it might not have been what I expected, I can't really say that I hated it — my friend did however, and her facial expression was priceless.

The interior of the place is designed with a purpose, that much one can tell just by simply glancing over it. It's not extremely minimalistic and yet it is not overdone either. What appealed to me the most was that there was enough space between tables that you do not have to listen to other people's conversations and vice versa it gives you enough privacy to have a good chat with your mates. We were lucky enough to grab the table with the sofa, as the place only has that particular one, and it is most cosy and definitely my favourite place to sit at there. My friend refers to Barabuk as the hipster coffee shop, and I guess it does kind of have that hipster-y look to it, does it not? And yet I still find it really charming and just such a cosy place to sit down and have your daily dose of caffeine.
One of the particular charms of the place are the inspirational quotes that are occupying the walls inside. The one that you can see above was just one of those, and I remember taking a picture of another one that featured a charmingly funny recipe on love, or something along those lines if I remember correctly. However, the pictures turned out blurry and the lighting was incredibly off, so unfortunately they did not make the cut. I just might snap them the next time I go there to get my daily fix of coffee, which won't be too far away as I have been spending a lot of time there. I don't know why but there's just something about the place that I find incredibly calming and I'm not sure if it's because of the quotes scattered on the walls, or that particular cosy sofa, yet I just adore the ambient there.
Me and my friend had a very lovely chat that day, discussing possible future projects while also having a laugh about life in general, and of course we were both snapping pictures left and right all the time. Later on we were joined by a friend of hers, who did not stay for too long and right after he left her boyfriend came in to provide his company. There's this thing about him that I like and it is that together we often pick on her until she starts pretending that she hates us from the bottom of her soul (and yet she can't help but to laugh, so she's not very convincing). At the end it was a really fun day with loads of laughter and coffee drinking, so for a first time visit it all went incredibly well and perhaps that's the reason why the coffee shop grew onto me so quickly.

I need to remind myself to try out their beer selection sometime soon, as from the menu they seem to have an incredibly large collection of beers and I think I saw a Cider mentioned in there somewhere, so I will have to gain more information about that. I don't think I had a Cider ever since I moved back from London and it's been over a year since then, so god knows it's about time now. I should also probably mention their morning offer that includes a cappuccino and a brownie or croissant for just 2eur all together, which is an incredible bargain and the main reason why this might turn into my go to place in the mornings before my classes.
Below you can see me and my friend indulging in our own cups of coffee, and is it wrong if it bothers me slightly that while I look really weird she looks like she's posing for a coffee ad in a magazine? Like how does she do that? I just have no idea and it's really not fair.

Barabuk is the first of the many coffee shops that I plan on visiting this year. In fact I think I might set myself a goal of 30 new coffee shops? I would say more but I'm not really sure if more would work out since the city of Ljubljana is not really that huge, and I reckon that 30 might be a reasonable enough goal.

Do you have your go-to coffee shop or are you on your very own hunt to discover that perfect little place? Are you more of a coffee or tea type of a person?

    1. You're most welcome and it's quite a cosy little place, although the music can be a bit too loud considering it should be a coffee shop book store. But I still recommend it though.
