Autumn Wardrobe Organisation

Keeping it in the theme of yesterday's post, I decided to share with you some tips and tricks on wardrobe organisation. For me that's always such a troublesome task, even though I do love going through my clothes, it's always more difficult if you know that the plan is to cut some things out and give them away. I definitely don't do this as often as I should, and you could probably even find some high school clothes in my wardrobe that I haven't worn in years! You heard it right, YEARS. Geez, I really need to get my shit together.

#1 IF YOU DON'T WEAR IT, THROW IT. Okay, don't literally throw it in the trash but you get the point. If it's been sitting there, collecting dust and only making it impossible for you to properly store your new clothes, it's time for it to leave. You may say that it holds sentimental value but honestly, if you rarely pick out of the wardrobe, then exactly how sentimental can it be? But then again, if you love it so much, keep it. It's up to you. I know that this week I'm collecting all of the things I never even see and putting it all in a huge bag, and off it goes. Hopefully to someone who will appreciate it more.
#2 IF IT DOESN'T FIT ANYMORE, IT DOESN'T BELONG THERE NO MORE. I have a bunch of old clothes that don't fit me properly any longer. I lost some weight in the past few years since I did a really proper wardrobe cleanse. So if you notice that the clothes don't really fit as they should, even if it's barely noticeable, then it has to go away. For me the most important thing is that I feel comfortable in my clothes, and if they just don't fit as they should, then I won't feel very comfortable, would I? But before you give them away, try hitting up a sewing shop and have them try to customise it to fit. If they can't, then off it goes. Or if you're feeling particularly crafty (which I never do) you can try do it yourself, or ask your nan, mum, or anyone who might have crafty fingers.
#3 MIX & MATCH. It's something I need to start doing more. There are probably a few items that on their own aren't that great, but perhaps mixed with something that I bought more recently, it could actually work. So try putting together a various amount of outfits with different clothes, mix those old ones with the newer once, and see if perhaps some of it work. You might be surprised how some of your "vintage" clothes might look good on a new pair of fitting jeans. If they don't, then you can just throw them in the goodbye bag.
#4 DIY THOSE OLD JEANS. Old jeans are a perfect excuse to grab a pair of scissors, some fabric and just start creating. There are countless of DIY tutorials on the internet on how to customise an old pair of jeans, or even turn them into a classic pair of shorts. And not only can you spice up your old jeans, you could also put those old simple shirts to good use by sewing in some patterns, or paste some prints onto your plain t-shirts. The options are endless when it comes to DIY. You could even turn an old sweater into the perfect ugly christmas sweater, which we all know that you need at least one of, right?
#5 MAKE MORE ROOM IN THE WARDROBE BY ORGANISING YOUR SOCKS/UNDERWEAR/HATS IN BOXES. And while you are at it, remember to check for holes in your socks and throw those away. No one wants to see your toe when you take your shoes off (unless it's summer, of course). I find that keeping everything that can't be hanged up in boxes makes my wardrobe a whole lot cleaner and more spacious. So now that you have cleaned all the clothes you don't wear (don't fit) you can start by putting all those socks, underwear, hats, gloves, scarves into boxes and you'll notice just how quickly your wardrobe has gained on space.
#6 NOW GO BUY NEW CLOTHES. You don't have to but it's always nice to reward yourself, and honestly after putting together a bag or two of old clothes, you do deserve to treat yourself to some new ones. Especially now that you have gone through your entire wardrobe and you probably assembles some ideas on what clothes might look great with the ones you kept. GO REWARD YOURSELF.

NARCIS AUTUMN ESSENTIALS: A classic coat, a statement scarf, as well as a classic black scarf, a simple sweater, a nice light shirt (that you can either put under the sweater or wear on its own if it's warmer), some cosy fuzzy socks, a good pair of boots, and last but not least a comfy wool hat.

Next week I will be putting up an updated autumn essentials list, as well as an autumn wish list. Or I just might combine those two together. I hope you don't mind two fashion related posts in a row, and we will return to including a few more lifestyle posts in the mix. Hope you enjoyed these little tips & tricks. And I'll see you tomorrow with another round of Thursday Tunes.
