Haircare: Swiss O-Par Coconut Wax

In the past years more and more men started taking better care of their hair and haircare became a really important process in a modern men's world. I personally find it incredibly difficult to find quality haircare products that would suit my incredibly difficult hair. You see, even though my hair is on the healthy side, mostly due to it being incredibly strong and thick, I personally find it to be very difficult to manage and style properly, which lately I learned is mostly because of its very own strong will, if I dare put it like that. It doesn't help that during these cold days hair dries out quicker than in the summer. Which is where this particular styling product steps in and saves the day.

I found the Swiss O-Par Coconut wax while searching for a new hair styling product in our local drug store — Muller. I never heard about the brand before, and was very hesitant in the purchase at first, as I have this tendency to stick with brands that I am well acquainted with and learned to trust them along the way. Especially when it comes to something I hold so precious like my hair. A fun fact: I only get my hair done at one hair salon and have never sat down with a hairstylist I wasn't familiar with, albeit that might change soon. Moving on to what convinced me to give this product a try despite it not being in my nature. It was the smell, if I'm being completely honest. The smell was that one factor that completely captivated me. It was an added bonus that the packaging looked quite sturdy and able to survive my frequent drives between my home town and the city. Of course I did quickly check the ingredients even though I am not a chemistry expert and I only knew a handful of them and agreed with a good friend of mine and beauty blogger that it appears to be a promising product at the very least — coconut oil is supposed to be good for your hair, especially in these cold days when everyone needs that little extra moisturise for their hair.
Before I started properly using it I also decided to do a more detailed background check on the ingredients, get myself chemically more acquainted with the new product that will go on my hair. A worry arose when I started reading about Petrolatum, as there are some very negative comments about it on the internet, and as I myself am no chemistry expert, it is my most reliable source right now. However most articles assure us that when Petrolatum is used in beauty care products it is tested very carefully and must reach the set standard and most dermatologist even recommend it due to its ability to hold in natural oils and even force the hair/skin to heal on its own and moisturise properly. Another information that I read about is that mineral oils, which is what Petrolatum essentially is, can be beneficial in colder winter days.  Petrolatum is also commonly used in lip balms. For now I calmed down although if anyone knows anything about Petrolatum and is completely against it, please do let me know in the comments below.

A further read down the ingredients list is much less nerve wrecking, as it mostly contains some vitamin E (tocopherol), perfume (no wonder it smells so delicious), coconut oil, etc. Coumarin is another warning ingredient, although it was banned in the USA as a food additive, it is still commonly used in cosmetics, mostly in perfumes due to its naturally sweet scent. Apart from that everything seems very much in order and apparently all the ingredients are natural, at least that's what my background search lead me to believe.
Well enough about the chemical side of the product, because as I've said I'm no chemistry genius and therefore I just provided information that I could find on the subject. But now it's time for me to actually focus on MY opinion on the product after two weeks of usage and testing it out to find just exactly how well it works on my hair and if it's worth a re-purchase or even a purchase in your case. So, let's see just how well it did in my books.
When I first used it I thought it was magical, absolutely amazing and simply the best product I have ever used on my hair. After I styled my hair with it, I could actually see my dry out hair looking refreshed, moisturised and with a healthy looking shine to them. I even remember telling my friend just how mesmerised I was with it at that point. Yet, after a few more tries I realised the first problem that I personally had with this wax — the hold was very low. Perhaps my hair is simply too thick and it might have a better hold on thinner hair, I just know that for me the hold was not doing the trick. And when it comes to a hair styling product for men, especially if we're talking about a wax, for me it's very important that the hold is good enough for me to be able to achieve my desired look.

However, the product still delivers on making your hair looking beautiful with that healthy shine, yet again it not a moisturising product and it won't do any magical tricks on properly healing your hair in the long run, at least not judging by the ingredients. What the product does is that it gives you a healthy looking hair, it's all about appearances when it comes to it at the end, if you ask me. In the winter time when I want my hair to hold in its natural hair oils and something to provide me with that extra shine, this wax is perfect. I would not recommend it for a year round usage, however.
Final conclusion? It won't be a repurchase, as I suspect this 100ml package will last me through this winter, yet depending on the situation next year I might go back and pick it up for the bad days when my hair is feeling incredibly dried out.
Has anyone tried it? Please do let me know in the comments below what you thought about it if you did.
Au revoir, Narcissists.
