My favourite East London spots

It feels like ages since I've been in London, and lately I'm back at that stage where I even miss that pesky voice on the Tube going: "Please mind the gap between the train and the platform." Actually, this might come off as a shocker to most of you but truthfully I kind of like the Tube, and yes even the rush hour doesn't bother me as much as it probably should. Or perhaps I just miss it so much that I now believe that I used to love the rush hour, which I probably didn't (especially not when moving in or out, luggage and the tube don't go hand in hand, if you ask me). One way or another, even though my stay was relatively short, I did get to experience quite a few bits and spots, more precisely in East London where I lived, as we spent most of our time in that zone.
East London is a very urban little London corner, don't you think? With Brick Lane, Shoreditch and Dalston as its few hot spots, you can't go wrong with a little bit of East London time. Now that I think about it, I wish we would experience it even more than we did, as I felt like towards the end we spent way too much time in our comfort zones, at the little spots that we already knew and loved, instead of being a bit more adventurous and discovering even more new spots that we might either love or loathe. However, without further ado I would like to point out a few tiny treasures, as I like to call them (even though they might be obvious to some) that I stumbled upon during my East London stay.
BE AT ONE COCKTAIL BAR. I have three words for you: cocktail happy hours. And by cocktail happy hours I mean two cocktails for the price of one from 6pm forward. Do I really even need to say more? Plus a little tip, their raspberry mojitos are to AH-MAZING! I actually had to ask a group of people at the neighbour table what they're having because even the sight of those mojitos was heavenly, so we just had to try them out ourselves and were we glad we did.
ROKIT VINTAGE SHOP. There are many vintage shops around London, though mostly I spent my time around the ones in East London and my definite favourite would have to be Rokit. I just found so many amazing bargains there, and the clothes were always of the highest quality and nicely taken care of. Actually I still own all the clothes I bought there and they're still almost like brand new. One amazing thing I found at Rokit is that they stock all kinds of different papers and magazines that you can take with you on the way out, so you can browse through them on your regular coffee break.
BLITZ LONDON. This particular vintage shop is a bit more on the expensive side, if you ask me (at least compared to Beyond Retro and Rokit), although they do have some amazing vintage furniture that I always admired from afar. If you're walking around Brick Lane, you're bound to be given a Blitz flyer at one point or another, so when you do go check it out. My favourite thing about Blitz is not their clothes or furniture though but their Italian espresso as they also have their own little cafe corner inside. Remember to check out how they make the coffee, as I found it to be insanely interesting.
YOUR MUM'S HOUSE. A must go-to club in Dalston. This is where I spent my 2013 New Year, and also where I met Vince Kidd from the first series of The Voice UK. They have some amazing parties, so be sure to follow their Facebook page to be informed of the latest news, and if you're in a need of a new FB profile picture make sure to look your best and get snapped by their photographer as their parties photographs are always on point.
OLD SPITALFIELDS MARKET. One could spend the entire day at the Old Spitalfields Market, that's a well known fact, right? So this little tiny treasures post wouldn't be complete without it, in my opinion. This is the perfect little brunch place, as you can get your caffeine daily dosage alongside delicious food with just a little dash of shopping on the side. It makes for a perfect day out with your friends, as they have a great selection of cafe's, restaurants, shops and also some pamper places for special occasions.
I could probably go on even further, although as I said it feels like ages since I have been in London and these are just the five spots that stuck in my head and I spent most of my free time at. That is if we're not counting the Starbucks near Liverpool Street Station and all the Boots around East London. You can search for all the addresses on the links provided above, as well as check out more detailed information about the places mentioned. And let me know if you decide to check out some of those and let me know your opinions, as well as perhaps some of your tiny treasure spots around East London, or even just London in general as I will be going back for a quick two weeks visit in August.
Hopefully you liked this nostalgic little post, even though I did promise the first post in the Baking with Mamma Narcis series, although while trying to edit the pictures I noticed their poor quality and decided to re-do the entire thing (which basically means more delicious Mamma Narcis sweets for me) this weekend when I will be going back home. So I pinky promise that I will be posting the first recipe next Monday, and hopefully the pictures turn out better this time around, keep your fingers crossed.
And now I'll go have a tiny shower pamper session, while I leave you with this post for the day.
Au revoir, my lovely Narcissists.
